ABOUT US
STEWARDWOMEN is a women-led, not-for-profit organization founded in March 2009 by South Sudanese women lawyers and their allies. Fully registered with the relevant national authorities, STEWARDWOMEN works to advance the rights, safety, and wellbeing of vulnerable communities in South Sudan.
The organization focuses on addressing sexual and gender-based violence, including conflict-related abuse, communal insecurity, food insecurity and livelihoods, access to sexual and reproductive health services, prevention of trafficking in persons, and the provision of critical lifesaving support during emergencies.
South Sudan Country Context,
Thirteen (13) years after gaining independence, including three years after signing the most recent peace agreement, people in South Sudan continue to face deteriorating humanitarian conditions amidst a worsening economy. Conflict, subnational violence, public health challenges, climatic shocks, and large-scale displacement have severely affected people’s livelihoods and hindered access to essential services. Forced displacement in South Sudan is highly complex, with large numbers of internally displaced persons, refugees, and returnees living side-by-side with host communities.
